In Kaluga, fuel is almost gone; gasoline disruptions have been recorded in more than 10 Russian cities

Privater Entwurf

By the morning of September 22, gasoline disruptions had been recorded in more than 10 Russian cities. The most acute situation developed in Kaluga, where AI-95 and AI-95+ were available at only four filling stations, and AI-92 at eight; by noon, fuel in the city and region had practically run out.

The «GdeBenz» service showed that most Kaluga gas stations were not operating, were experiencing fuel shortages, or were collecting queues of 50–100 cars. Local motorists wrote that «it looks like there is no gasoline in the city», and «Kaluzhskie Novosti» called the situation the third wave of the fuel crisis in the region.

Gasoline problems were also noted in Arkhangelsk and Severodvinsk. According to «29. ru», on the morning of September 22, fuel was sold in Arkhangelsk at only seven filling stations, and in Severodvinsk the dispensing was limited at many gas stations; by noon, queues of 40–45 cars were being recorded there.

Similar disruptions were observed in Vologda as well. In Cherepovets, according to the «BenzEst» service, fuel was unavailable at at least half of the gas stations, and AI-95+ and AI-100 were completely absent in the city.

In the Lipetsk region, as «Novosti Lipetska» reported, 64 gas stations were operating in the morning with a fuel shortage, and the region has an even-odd system and a limit of no more than 30 liters of gasoline per car. In Krasnodar, 81 gas stations were operating in the morning, but the authorities reported that AI-92 was available at only 45 filling stations, AI-95 at 40, AI-100 at 10, and by noon the number of operating gas stations had decreased; fuel shortages were also reported in Penza, Tambov, Ulyanovsk, and Barnaul.

Since the beginning of summer, a fuel crisis has been ongoing in Russia amid Ukrainian drone strikes on oil refineries. A week ago, U.S. President Donald Trump asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to stop strikes on Russian refineries, saying that this was causing a global shortage of diesel fuel, and the day before he said that Russia had «lost control over diesel production».

Trump and Zelensky are due to meet on September 22 in the U.S., where the Ukrainian president arrived to take part in the UN General Assembly. Despite Trump’s calls, the Kuibyshev refinery in Samara was attacked on September 22, and the day before it was reported that the Moscow refinery had completely stopped oil processing.
